This lamp consists of a black walnut base in the shape of a tear drop with a jellyfish-shaped shade in the middle. The shape of the shade is like four half spheres stacked on top of one another and combined into one object. The shade is built out of a continuous wire spiral that is covered in paper. The dial to turn the lamp on is on the “pointy” side of the teardrop-shaped base. The shade gives off a warm yellow glow that permeates through the lamp shade, making the lampshade appear like it itself is the source of the light, not the lightbulb. The quality of this light, combined with the organic shape of the shade, make this lamp feel like a living creature. This lamp is not merely an inert piece of furniture, but a companion; a friend. When doing work by the light of this lamp, one feels comforted and supported by its soft but steady glow.
